Hong Kong based jewellery designer Ruthie L studio has made the impossible possible. Never again will you have to take your layered look off whilst on the mat.
I’ve always loved layering delicate, dainty rings. Having my fingers accentuated in fine silver while in the flow of the practice is the perfect combination of style and movement.
For this collaboration with the talented team at Ruthie L, the first thing I did was create a mood board for our shoot. I then knocked on the door of stylist Cheryl Yam of What Would Chez Wear to help bring my vision to life.
Since I started my practice, I’ve always had a certain affinity towards yogic mudras. A mudra is a hand gesture during meditation/yoga that carries specific goals of channeling your body’s energy flow. Using this strong hand positioning enabled me to highlight the intricate rings.
I wanted to capture the simplicity of the jewellery using the flow of the yoga practice, mainly through poses that involve binding and twists, with close ups on the hands intertwined and bound.
Below is the original mood board we worked with on the shoot day. It highlights poses we used throughout the shoot – reverse prayer, humble warrior, twisted utkatasana, garudasana; and some close up headshots with edgy hand gestures.
Ruthie L Studio is a Hong Kong based jewellery brand created and founded by Tiffany Ruthie Lui. It’s inspired by her love of minimal quiet details and is made to be worn everyday and never be taken off. The concept and designs are everything I love about accessorising – understated, subtle and super wearable.
